Coloring Page Maker: A4 vs US Letter
Choose the paper that is loaded in your printer: A4 for 210 × 297 mm paper, or US Letter for 8.5 × 11 in paper. On this site’s coloring page maker, both choices export PNG and PDF at 300 DPI; selecting the matching paper avoids asking the printer to shrink a page onto a different sheet.

Output sizes shown by this tool
The live tool labels its A4 portrait output as 2480 × 3508 pixels at 300 DPI and US Letter portrait as 2550 × 3300 pixels at 300 DPI. These are the page raster dimensions shown in the tool’s own paper-size controls. In landscape, the width and height swap.
| Paper setting | Physical sheet | Portrait pixels shown by the tool | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| A4 | 210 × 297 mm | 2480 × 3508 px | Your printer is loaded with A4 |
| US Letter | 8.5 × 11 in (215.9 × 279.4 mm) | 2550 × 3300 px | Your printer is loaded with Letter |
A4 is taller relative to its width; Letter is slightly wider and shorter. The measurements above are paper-format dimensions; the pixel values are the site tool’s displayed export sizes. The A series is specified by ISO 216, while the US Letter dimensions are stated in U.S. federal publishing specifications.
Choose the paper before saving
- Check the size printed on the paper package or your printer’s tray setting.
- In the tool, select the matching paper size and portrait or landscape orientation.
- Generate the outline, then download the PDF if you want a ready-sized page for printing. The PNG is useful when you need an image file.
- In the print dialog, select the same paper size. If the page is clipped, choose “Fit” or “Fit to printable area”; for maximum print area, use a printer that supports borderless printing.
- Preview before printing several copies. Printer margins differ, so the browser preview is the final check for your printer.
What the page dimensions mean
The tool’s A4 and Letter pixel pairs are both labeled 300 DPI. Converting the physical sheet measurements to inches gives about 8.27 × 11.69 in for A4 and exactly 8.5 × 11 in for Letter. Multiplying those dimensions by 300 gives the approximate raster sizes shown in the interface (rounding to whole pixels). This relationship explains why two files can both be “300 DPI” but still have different pixel dimensions: their paper shapes differ.
